Zoological Museum in St. Petersburg

Dear Friends
if you have the occasion to be in St. Petersburg don't forget to visit the Zoological Museum (http://www.saint-petersburg.com/museums/zoological-museum.asp ), on the bord of the river Neva not far from the Eremitage. Of particular interest in the Museum, among other animals, are the rests of some mamonts discovered in Siberia. Here are some images taken during the visit of the Museum made by JLD and me.

Orthodox churches in St. Petersburg and Pushkin

Dear Friends
the participation to JENAM 2011 has left to JLD and me the possibility to visit three interesting orthodox churches.
The first one, the rose church, unfortunately closed, is not far from the Victory Place in St. Petersburg. It is dedicated to St. John the Precursor and was built in the years 1777-1780 by the architect Felten. It contains many West Europe contemporary architectural elements and is very unusual for the Russian religious architecture.
The second one is in Pushkin and was demolished during the Russian Revolution. The reconstruction is terminated recently and of particular interest is the iconostasis.
The third one is the church of St. Theodor near the palaces of Catherine II and Alexander I in Pushkin. Let me say that its iconostasis is one of the most beautiful I never seen.
