Gargoyles in Herford

Dear Friends
the Joanniskirche in Herford has offered us not only the vision of its magnificent organ but also the vision of its external gargoyles. The gargoyles are representations sometime grotesques of mythical animals: dragons or chimaeres, demons or humans placed at the discharges of the gutters of the roof of mainly churches but also middle age buildings. Their architectural function is to keep the rain water far from the surfaces of the exterior walls and the foundations. Their religious signification is to keep demons far from the church or the building. Here are the images of the gargoyles of the Joanniskirche. I have to observes that also the gargoyles represent an interesting center of interest for our M.Polo Club.

Organs in Hannover and Herford

Dear Friends
due to a delay of one of our trains, yesterday Jean-Luc and me have had the possibility to spend an hour in Hannover before to reach Herford. The walk in Hannover brought us to visit the Marktkirche in which are preserved and actually played a small but powerful italian orgel of 1780 by Fabrizion Cimino, the imposant Grosse Orgel of 1953/54 and the new 2007/08 Chor Ensemble Orgel. The registers composition of these orgel reamained unfortunately unknown. In Herford, a nice town rich in elegant houses and places, the Münsterkirche, i.e. the Dom, was closed, but the small St. Antonius Kirche and the Joanniskirche have reserved us the vision of other two magnificent organs. Also in the case of these organs the registers composition remained unknown. The images give you an idea of the artistic creations represented by these organs.

Asche und Gold

Dear Friends
thanks to the suggestion by Yaël and the organisation by Jean-Luc, yesterday took place the announced M.Polo excursion to visit the exhibition Asche und Gold hosted by the Marta Herford Museum in Herford: http://marta-herford.info/?page_id=11683 .
First of all, let me say that the architecture of the Museum makes itself a real piece of art. Then, I have to observe that the exhibition let the visitor a bit surprised because of the exposed black or carbonised artifacts that are difficult to be considered in a possible connection with the other shining golden artifacts. The pamphlet of the exhibition tries to suggest an explanation. But I think that the astro images proposed at the exhibition by Yaël give already a good key of interpretation. In fact, carbon and gold are created together by the stars and released in the cosmos by the supernova explosions. From my side, I have also to add that, in looking to the last of the following images, it appears clear that ash and gold can be found also dialogating.

Gottes Bilder - Religion im alten Egypten

Dear Friends
last Sunday, together with Jean-Luc, I visited the exhibition Gottes Bilder at the Archäologisches Museum here in Munich. The exhibition in itself is a non-exhibition
because it presents the artifacts normally exposed at the Museum just at their usual places.
Only some of them are statues or portraits of Egyptian Gods. In any case, the pieces of the Museum are of high quality and provided us with information about the ancient Egypt daylife of which the religion was a foundamental component. Here are the images of the some artifacts exposed at the Museum.
