Sirènes et Dragons

sincerly, I have well appreciated the initiative of the Municipality of Landerneau (Brittany - FR) http://www.ville-landerneau.fr/
of presenting the open air exhibition: Sirènes et Dragons, dedicated to the ancient sculptures that decorate the houses of the town. The merit of the exhibition is to let this ancient heritage not sleeping or ignored but to give to it new life in the immagination and awarness of the people. Of interest, besides of mermaids and dragons, are the representations of the gargoyles (see for reference our blog: http://m-polo.blogspot.nl/2012/02/gargoyles-in-herford.html ) which, according to the theories, represent either fantastic, ferocious creatures preserving a temple or an house from evil influences or infernal creatures dispelled from a church. Gérard Fromanger at Landerneau

the opening of the Fonds Hélène & Édouard Leclerc pour la Culture in Landerneau (Brittany - FR):

in the renovated and suggestive site of an ancient Abbey of Capucins, presents the exhibition: Gérard Fromanger - Périodisation 1962-2012. The exhibition shows 170 paintings, pictures and xerigraphies of the author:

which are sufficient, in my opinion, to provide the visitor with an idea of the Fromanger's art characterised by the succesful capability to create vivant everyday images and expressive portraits by using few colours.

Daoulas - L'Air du Temp and Botany

in my holiday in the Finistère (Brittany - FR) I visited, as usual, the Abbey of Daoulas:

This year the Abbey proposes the exhibition: l'Air du Temps, dedicated to the folk music of cultures in different countries. The exhibition, of remarkable high quality, is a mix of old and modern music technologies. It shows old and contemporary music instruments and by means of computers and synthetisers permits to listen musics played by different and sometimes extinted cultures, recorded by French ethnologists. Disappeared Skills, Disappeared Professions

I have to thank the Comité de Pêche de Sainot Malo - Bretagne (FR) for its initiative of presenting to the public a unique living reconstruction of the life of the French fishermans engaged in the fishing campaigns of the past on the banks of the Newfoundland (Canada). According to the reconstruction, a team of fischermans working under the deck of a fishing boat comprised a first fish operator in charge to fournish the captured fishes to a second one who cutted the fish heads and passed the bodies of the fishes to a third one who cleaned the bodies from the intriors and passed them to a fourth one, sometime a 14-15 year old joung man, who washed the bodies and passed them to a fifth one in charge of salting down the bodies and disposing them for storing. Up to six such teams, contemporary, day and night worked under the deck of a fishing boat and a fishing campaign often last up to six months. Today, few French fishing boats each year take the way of the Newfoundland banks and it is possible to say that the skills or professions of said fishermans are practically disappeared. The following images give you an idea of the hard working conditions of said fishermans and their skills. The Castle of Pignerolle

Dear Friends
if you visit Brittany (FR) don't miss the occasion to visit the Castle of Pignerolle (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Pignerolle) at Saint Barthelemy D'Angiou (Angers - France) and its parc. The Castle is interesting for its light and symbolic architecture and for its recent history: during the WW II, on 1939-1940 it hosted the Polish Republic Presidency in exhil and after, during the period of the Occupation of France, the Commanding Post of the German U-Bootes engaged in the Atlantic Battle. Now the Castle hosts the interesting Museé de la Comunication (http://www.musee-communication.com/) and an, unfortunately, closed dependance the Musée de la Technique. The parc of the Castle, for many aspects similar to the Englisher Garten here in Munich, hosts mainly continental trees as well as German blockhouses of the WW II. Mariano Otero de Madrid à Dinard

Dear Friends
in my permanence in Dinard I visited the exhibition: Mariano Otero de Madrid à Dinard at the suggestive exhibition site of the Villa Les Roches Brunes (http://www.fondation-patrimoine.org/fr/bretagne-6/tous-les-projets-335/detail-villa-les-roches-brunes-de-dinard-2652). Incontestably, the subject of the attention and the art of Otero is mainly the feminine sensuality in all its manifestations, but let me said that, from the paintings presented at the exhibition, Otero never falls in a sterile of crude form of erotism ("ces nus sont toujours porteurs de sensualité, l'amplitude des formes nous impose leur présences").
