Although mixed intimately the two elements are clearly distinguishable. Tombs robbers by dispersing some minor of his objects bearing his cartouche betrayed to the archaeologists his passing, and necropolis guardians by covering the entrance of his tombs (KV 62) allowed it to be discovered, practically untouched, by Howard Carter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Carter.
The only sad remark is that, apparently, the Munich Museum of Egyptian Art http://www.smaek.de/ has had nothing to do with Tuthankamun.
