Bilder im Dunkeln

Dear friends
the visit I made in the past of the part accessible to the public of the legendary caves of Lascaux in the Perigord (FR) pushed me to the visit the exhibition Bilder im Dunkeln - Holenkunst der Eiszeit:
http://www.archaeologie-bayern.de/de/ausstellungen/sonderausstellungen
at the Archaeology Museum here in Munich.
The exhibition, located in the darkened hall of the Museum, is perfused by sounds of dripping water and can be visited only by means of torches provided at the entrance. It put together pictures of parietal art of the last Ice Age, present in the caves of Lascaux (FR): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lascaux, Niaux (FR): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_of_Niaux , and Altamira (ES): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_of_Altamira.
In looking to the pictures it is possible to grasp a trend from simple non colored graffiti to more detailed, rich in colours pictures of ancient animals now extinct or disappeared from Europe. The specific purpose, if any, of this parietal art is unknown, but I think that it is the religious-shamanic desire of remanding the inhabitants of the cave/s of the magical environment that ensured their survival.
Any comment from your side is welcomed.
Salutations
Giancarlo
