the part of the French National Navy base of Brest (FR) named "les Quatre Pompes" is occupied by the impressive cement gloomy mass of the former German U-Boote base of the WWII:

The attached images permit to appreciate the prodigious effort lavished by the German Kriegsmarine for defending its precious submarines and so its possibility to attack the allied convoys during the Atlantic War.
