Dear Friends
it is well worth to visit the San Petronio Basilica in Bologna as crucible of architectural and artistic treasures. But I was motivated to the visit also because of its Cassini's high precision Linea Meridiana, the largest of this kind worldwide. Weather permitting, it indicates the Solar noon during all the year and the entrance of the Sun in the different Zodiacal signs (see also in this blog: Linea meridiana slab Milan). Unfortunately, as often happens, the weather was bad and I have not had the possibility to immortalize the Solar noon the day of the visit. How the line was traced and how the limits of the Zodiacal signs were determined remains for the moment, at least for me, a mistery, but I have time to investigate. Information from your side is welcomed.
