Dear Friends
last Sunday 07/04/2013 took place the announced M.Polo excursion to Bochum (DE). Participants were Jean-Luc and me. Goals of the excursion were the visit of the Deutsches Bergbau Museum (DBM) ( http://www.bergbaumuseum.de/index.php?page=1 ) and its temporary exhibition Unbekanntes Kasachstan ( http://www.unbekanntes-kasachstan.de/Home ). The DBM clearly manifests, as the Deutsches Museum here in Munich, the pride of the Germans for their technological achievements. Presented in the halls are full scale mining devices, the underground shows full scale mining tunnels with the devices used by the miners, the mining tower offer superb visions of Bochum and its environs. The images give you an impression of the DBM.

Patenting Art ?
Dear Friends
in Verona, during the Eastern holidays I meet Mr. Bruno Bovi, a singular artist who invented what I can define the "ceramic painting". In fact, the "painting" method developed by Bruno consists in producing coloured ceramics bas-reliefs of mainly panoramas of Verona and present them in glass frames. For protecting his "painting" method Bruno filed the Italian national patent application VR2007A000054 titled: Formelle. The following images present Bruno at work on his "ceramic paintings".

Faszination Spinne
Dear Friends
Jean-Luc and me visited the announced exhibition Faszination Spinne ( http://musmn.de/ausstellung/sonderspinnen/start.htm ) at the Mensch und Natur Museum ( http://www.musmn.de/start.htm ) here in Munich. First of all, let me say that the spines, the scorpions and the millipedes are non-aggressive, peaceful creatures, moving slowly, thus it is not the case to be afraid of them. The exhibition permits to discovers interesting adaptations (eyes, legs, skin) of these creatures for surviving and proliferate in their environments. But very surprising are the various colour compositions that the bodies of the spines exhibite, which can hardly be considered as an adaptation to the environment, but rather as secondary sexual characters for generating sexual appeal (see the following images). Any comment from your side is welcomed.

Ancient Egypt in Verona ? - Idoli "Aida"
Dear Friends
from the bus, during my stay in Verona, I remarked an imposant Egyptian bronze, on the knees satue, in a garden near a parking. This unusual location for such an imposant ancient artifact moved me to go down from the bus for understanding the reason for this.
The statue actually represent an offering pharao to the Egyptian trinity Osiris, Isis and Hathor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osiris_myth , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isis , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hathor ), and not far from this first statue, two other represent respectively the Egyptian gods Sekmet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sekhmet) and Anubis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anubis). Near this last statue, a board informed that these statues belonged to the scene of the 2006 representation of Aida of G. Verdi by Franco Zeffirelli at the Arena of Verona. The only regret is that these statues are not from bronze but by perishable materials that already show signs of deterioration due to the weather.
Any comment from your side is welcomed.

Bruno Lucchi at Saint Fermo Maggiore - Verona (Veneto - IT)
Dear Friend
the cripta of the church of Saint Fermo Maggiore in Verona: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Fermo_Maggiore_(Verona)
in this Eastern 2013 holds an exhibition of Bruno Lucchi, master of figurative arts:
http://www.brunolucchi.it/ .
Among the pieces exposed, I remained impressed by the Lucchi's white terrecotte (crockeries) which have the power to materialise in forms the passage from the inspiration to the decision and to the final action, in other words the passage from statics to dynamics. The images give you some impression of said materialisation of this passage made by Lucchi. Any comment from your side is welcomed.

Rino Guandalini - Il Segno dell'Anima
Dear Friends
the visit of an ill aunt brought me, during my stay in Verona, at the Polo Chirurgico (Surgical Pole) of one of the hospitals of Verona. Inside the Polo, my attention was attracted by the exhibition: Il Segno dell'Anima, by Mr. Rino Guandalini. Mr. Guandalini provided me with information about his techniques of painting: aquerello and acquaforte. In particular acquaforte he said is a rare technique, in which a metallic plate is covered by wax which is carved by the artist according to the picture he wants to create. The carved wax is then aggressed by acid which etches the metallic surface, reproducing an etched picture on the slab. Ink on the etched picture permits to reproduce the picture on paper or parchement.
Masters of acquaforte were Albrecht Dürer in Germany and Parmigianino in Italy. Some acqueforti of Mr. Guandalini, showing his unique talent for the landscape and historical landscape, are in the following images. More information about the art of Mr. Guandalini at: http://www.guandalini.it/

Quando l'Arte racconta la Fede - in Verona (Veneto - IT)
Dear Friends
I was in Verona for the holidays of Eastern and I have had the opportunity to visit the exhibition: Quando l'Arte racconta la Fede (When the Art narrates the Faith), held in the Church of Saint Fermo Maggiore. The exhibition provide the visitor with a unique and suggestive panorama of ancient ikones coming from different Russian sites (Vladimir, Novgorod, Rostov, ...), from different epoques and proposing, although in their static similarity, different messages. Unfortunately, due to the light conditions in the church, not all the images are of good quality. I remind you that the ikones are one of the centers of interest of our M.Polo Club and that any comment from your side is welcomed.
