Verona - Ristorante Maffei - Roman Capitolium

Dear Friends
last week I was in Verona and I was aware from internet that the building hosting the renomated restaurant Maffei was built on the site of the ancient Roman Capitolium of the town. Thus, I decided to go to the Maffei for asking information about possible Roman antiquities in the caves of the restaurant. A jung polite and competent madam confirmed me that under the restaurant were preserved part of the artificial stone platform and the ruines of the Augustan Era main temple of the town dedicated to the Roman holy triad of gods: Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. She showed me the ruins and the drawing of the reconstructon of the Capitolium. We discussed the unusaul position of the Capitolium which closed the west part of the Roman Forum (today Piazza Erbe) and cutted the Roman Decumanus (main East - West road of the town). SEveral possible explanations exist for this, but I think that at the place of the Capitolium, before the Roman period, there was already a holy area and the Roman at the beginning, for respect to the local religion and cult, did not removed. Only successively, they included the local religion and cult in the Roman pagan religion, identifying local gods with the Roman holy triad. The images give you an impression of the rests of the ancient Capitolium of Verona.
Any comment from your side is welcomed.
Salutations
Giancarlo
