Ħaġar Qim temple

Dear Friends
Ħaġar Qim is one of the megalithic temples of Malta located on the south western part of the country. It is suggested that they date back to around 3500 BC and the site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The temple may have astronomical significance as one of the stones has a hole through which sunlight on the summer solstice passes as soon as the sun rises above the horizon.

I visited this temple yesterday together with the neighbouring temple of Mnajdra to have a look after a new project was made to protect the megaliths from weather erosion by protecting them with a tented structure.  However monitoring studies are continuously underway to determine whether the new micro-climate which has been created under the tents may after all contribute to faster wind erosion etc.

Saħħa,
Alexei
