the themes in the mosaics of the Villa del Casale can hardly be exhaustively enumerated. The Great Hunt (see the images) was mainly for capturing exotic animals to be shipped to a rich market, surely in Rome. It suggests that it was the activity that heavily enriched the proprietor of the Villa, that it extended from Nord and Central Africa up to the Middle (Panthera tigris - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger) and Far East (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumatran_rhinoceros ), and that some kind of animals (Struthio camelus - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostrich ) were not necessarily destinated to the games in the Colosseum ( http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colosseum ). Why a manager (the proprietor ?) was so angry with a servant for immortalizing it in the Great Hunt remains a mistery. Further could be argumented about the Great Hunt but I let to you to form your opinion.
